I was already becoming a fan of pub stop overs, before todays GB news article (June 2024) about how many pubs close every week in the UK. Closing their doors to all the locals and those that travel in their motorhomes.
I had to be in a certain location in North Yorkshire tomorrow morning, and park4night popped up with a pub stop with good reviews. As always one of my first steps is to check the pub menu, to see what I want to eat. At The Cover Bridge Inn the the item on the menu that stood out was the oven roasted trout with new potatoes and fish cream.
So after I checked the menu, I phoned the Cover Bridge Inn and was advised that they were happy for me to stay in the car park over night and there was no need to book.
Upon arrival I parked up and popped into the pub. I was going to ask if it was dog friendly, but that seemed pointless when I saw the number of people with dogs in the beer garden. What a sun trap that beer garden is, and it’s right on the bank of the river.
I started with a couple pints of beer (£5ish a pint) and then ordered the trout to be eaten at my table in the beer garden. I’m not exactly sure what adjective to describe the food, but I’ll start with delicious. At a cost of £14 for the meal, the flavour easily surpassed what was expected at that price. Staff were great, beer was spot on and food not only cheap but worth another visit.
But back to the park up. The car park is situated just across the road from the Inn and its a good size. Its also very level. So levelling ramps are not required. There were 3 other motorhomes parked up. If staying here please consider your parking. There is a gate into a field that needs to be kept clear, but also a lot of cars use the parking. So please be considerate when parking.
Mobile phone signal on both o2 and 3 were good, and offered good data coverage. Certainly enough for me to watch one of the Euro 2024 matches via iplayer. My 12v TV performed well for the football match.
With the news about how many pubs are closing every week in the UK. I think pub stop overs should be promotoed. Quite often like this one, food and a few beers is cheaper than a campsite pitch. The benefit being that you get fed and watered, I undertand that if you are travelling as a family it may not be cheaper. But remember about the food and beer that you would have paid for either way.
On another note, I didn’t see this advertised. But when asked, they said any meal could be done as a take-a-way if requested. This sometimes works well for me with having to take my dog everywhere.
