Old Oak Tree – South Kilvington

Initially I spotted the Old Oak Tree on Park4night, and was happy with the reviews for it. Its a pub stop over. Like many do they either charge £10 per night, or its free if you eat in the pub.

Well this sounded great for me, however when I visited the pubs website it got even better. Several items on the menu really took my eye, more about what I ate later. But even better, was that any item on the menu could be had as a take-a-way as opposed to eating in the pub. I travel with my dog and he isn’t great when theres food around. Its worth noting that the pub is dog friendly and several dogs were with their owner inside.

So I phoned up to check there was availabilty for a motorhome and also that it was ok to get the food as a take-a-way as opposed to eating inside. There were no problems with this. I also promised to sit in the beer garden (with my dog) and have a few pints. £4 a pint for Jorvik, I thought was a bargain.

I asked what time I could arrive and was informed anytime was fine, however pub was shut until 16:45. Upon arrival in the large car park, I spotted the 4 large flat spaces at the bottom of the car park and parked up.

At 6pm I ventured up to the pub, and ordered a pint of Jorvik and asked for the seafood platter as a take-a-way, and advised I was staying in a motorhome in the carpark. Total cost for these to £23. As mentioned above the pint of jorvik was only £4. The staff simply said just let us know a few minutes before you want your food and it will be sorted.

So as promised, although I would have done it any way, I sat in the beer garden and had a few pints.. Afterwards I simply went back to the bar and asked if they could sort my food. A few minutes later I had and went back to the van to eat it. It was DELICIOUS. Unfortunately I will have to return a few more times as there were other items on the menu that I really wanted to try.

After a very uneventfull and peacefull sleep, I got up in the morning and prepped for my next destination. Only a few miles away at Sentry Circle Camping.

The pubs description of the seafood platter – Seafood Platter, poached salmon, fishcake, battered king prawns, smoked salmon & mini prawn cocktail £19.95. It also came with a choice of chips and salad, or new potatoes and vegetables. As the picture shows I went for the chips and salad option..

In short, this is a great stop off. It’s even better if you like good food. Plus £4 a pint is cheap anywhere in the country. Toilets available when pub is open, and fresh water available on request. Parking for motorhomes is fairly level after testing with my levelling device.
