Motorhome Ring Alarm
Motorhome Ring Alarm, you may say that they don’t make one. Well that just is not true. They just don’t market it as a Ring Alarm for a motorhome.
The benefits of a ring alarm in a home are well known. The benefits are just the same in a motorhome, namely instant notifications to your phone if a door is opened or motion is spotted.
I have aslo installed a Ring Stick Up Camera, which can also be linked to the alarm. Sounding the alarm if a person is detected within the motorhome. The benefit of having a camera, means you can also remotely view the interior of the motorhome in case it was a false alarm.
The alarm can also be switched on or off remotely. A panic alarm feature is also included. Should you be spooked by people outside the motorhome whilst you are inside. This feature can also be activated remotely.
So back to why this Ring Alarm is suitable for a motorhome. Quite simply, the 240v power adapter has an output of 5v. Luckily this is the same voltage as a USB point. So your base station can be powered via USB. A usb to 5v cable is required for this. Ring do not sell one of these cables, but fortunately many other companis do. The internal battery of the base station also lasts for approximately 24 hours, should your usb outlet stop working for any reason.
Of course for you to access the alarm remotely, or to receive instant notifications, you will need an internet connection in your motorhome. For this we recommend the TP-Link 4G MiFi Mobile Hotspot which is available here. If you subscribe to the ring data plan (£7.99 a month) you will receive notifications even if you don’t have wifi in the van. The alarm can also be remotely alarmed or disarmed via the data plan.
My Alarm Setup
On my personal setup, I have 3 door sensors and 2 Stick Up cameras. The door sensors are on the driver door, passenger door and habitation door. The 2 cameras are located one at the rear and 1 at the front of the motorhome. Of course I also have the base station and keypad.
